IRB Difference |
How does a learning IRB differ from traditional models?
Our learning IRB is committed to providing a transparent process and consistent and justified decisions. Opaque processes and decisions without clear explanation can lead to concerns that decisions are arbitrary and unjustified. Openness builds confidence and trust, and lets the IRB and the researcher learn from one another as members of a team committed to advancing knowledge in a way that treats research subjects with the respect and consideration they deserve and expect. We are committed to learning with the researcher and we value their voice as an important aspect of our learning environment. |
What are the benefits of using the learning IRB?
Our focus on learning–through a strong commitment to transparency and consistency–sets the stage for a collaborative partnership between the researcher and the reviewer that will ultimately result in better research design, more consistent protection of human subjects, and clearer expectations for researchers. In addition, our independent, non-profit IRB model eliminates potential financial conflicts of interest and allows smaller, community-based researchers to dedicate more resources to their studies. Transparency and will provide clarity and predictability to reduce questions and turnaround time. Finally, our free, pandemic-related reviews conducted using our innovative processes will allow reviewers to evaluate each study in the context of the whole COVID-19 research landscape, reducing the risk of duplicative and poorly-designed studies. |
